Bislett is Norway's best-known sports arena, with 15 speed skating world records and more than 50 track and field world records. In 1999 Sports Illustrated named Bislett the number five sports arena in the world in the 20th century.
In 2004, the stadium was demolished, and in 2005 a new stadium in the same distinct style opened.
Bislett is the site of the annual ExxonMobil Bislett Games international athletics event.
The field is also used for football (soccer).
