Verdi’s Aida is back in the Norwegian Opera & Ballet in a new production based on what went on behind the facade. Forget the camels and elephants - the widely acclaimed director David McVicar will be bringing out the brutality and the dark side of Egyptian society in the time of the Pharaohs. A society governed by rituals, obsessed with death, driven by war-making and power. How can love between a prisoner and guard survive when up against forces such as these? The contrasts between the monumental and the intimate make Aida a unique operatic experience.
This is a co-production between the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia and the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet.
