Øya Festival
The Øya Festival is Oslo's biggest rock festival. Every year it draws more than 40,000 music lovers to the Medieval Park, who can enjoy four days of everything from big, international stars to new up-and-coming artists.
The Øya Festival is held in August every year, in the Medieval Park on Oslo’s east side – on historical ground, where Oslo was originally built. In beautiful green surroundings, but still in the centre of Oslo, you can hear concerts from three main stages inside the festival area. If you need a break, you can taste delicious ecological food, or buy records, clothes and cartoons from the stalls and tents in the festival’s “shopping street”.
The Club Day on Tuesday, with concerts at many small clubs, works as a warm-up for the four days (Wednesday-Saturday) in the Medieval Park festival area. Wednesday-Saturday after the festival area is closed, there are Øya Night events in some of Oslo night clubs.
The Øya Festival has taken over from the Kalvøya Festival, which was held on the island Kalvøya in Bærum from 1971 to 1997, with legends like Frank Zappa, Carlos antana, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Nirvana etc. on stage. In 1999 the festival was brought back to life under the name Øya (which means ”island”). The name was kept when the festival moved to the Medieval Park in 2001.
Tickets
The festival pass gives free entrance to the festival area Wednesday-Saturday and to most Club Day concerts. You can buy a day pass for one of the days in the Medieval Park. Some days are often sold out early in the summer. For the Øya Club Day and the Øya Night events, single tickets are sold at each venue.
