Eat and drink cheap in Oslo

The alcohol prices are much to blame for the perception that it is expensive to eat and drink in Norway. The high price level is mainly caused by high taxes on alcohol.

It’s not easy to say what the average price for a beer is, since the bars and restaurants often operate with different beer sizes. But in general one can say that the normal, "middle price" for a beer (0.5 litres) in a restaurant or bar is around NOK 52. Then there are places where you can get a beer for under NOK 40, and places where it costs almost NOK 70.
