Parking in Oslo

In Oslo there are both municipal and private parking. Parking in the streets and in some parking lots is mostly municipal, while parking houses and some larger parking lots are mostly private.

Municipal parking is divided into zones with various price- and time regulations. In the city centre street parking is only pay-zone, and Mon-Fri 09-18 and Sat 09-15 you always have to pay a fee standing in any of these spots. Outside these hours however, parking is free. In the streets outside the city centre, there are both free-zones and pay-zones available.

Parking in private parking houses requires a fee any time of the day.

Where do I find information about the different zones, prices etc?
Take a look at The Traffic Authority pages.

How does the Oslo Pass work when it comes to parking in Oslo?
With the Oslo Pass, you can park for free at all municipal car parks. Make sure the car park has a public sign – a white P on a blue background. Private parking houses are not free with the Oslo Pass.

Write down your licence number, registration number, the date and the time on the parking ticket which comes with the Oslo Pass. Use a pen. Place the ticket easily visible in the front window. NB: The parking rules and the maximum parking time allowed must be followed. Meaning: if the parking sign says maximum 3 hours, you will have to move your car after 3 hours even if you have a 24 hour Oslo Pass.
