Summer activities in Oslo

The capital's unique location between the fjord and the forest allows many outdoor activities in summer.

Oslo’s climate is actually better than our Northern latitude might indicate. This is due to the Gulf Stream bringing warm water from the Gulf of Mexico across the Atlantic Ocean and up the coast of Norway. During the summer months, temperatures are often equivalent to cities located further Southe.

The number of activities on the fjord and in the parks are a sign that Oslo’s citizens exploit the summer to the utmost. Summer days are long and the sun sets around 10 pm in the evening.

The forests surrounding Oslo are no longer covered in snow but with paths enabling you to explore the tranquillity of the nature just minutes away from downtown Oslo. Several companies organise tours in Nordmarka by foot, bicycling, Nordic walking or canoeing in one of the many lakes. The area is suitable for both individual escapes and teambuilding activities.

You can also visit one of Oslo's many world-class museums and sights; from Holmenkollen Ski Jump to the Viking Ship Museum or the amazing Vigeland Sculpture Park.

Oslo is situated at the very end of the Oslo Fjord. The fjord is the most popular recreation area in Norway for sailing, fishing, swimming and relaxing on one of the many beaches.

If you wish to see more of the summer life of Oslo, then take a cruise on the Oslo Fjord either for a short 50 minute trip or for a more complete experience on a sunset cruise including a large Norwegian prawn buffet. A summer evening on the fjord is an experience you should not miss. Fresh air, lovely scenery and late sunsets.

If you would like to explore Oslo's nightlife further there should be enough to keep you up till early morning.
