Previous World Championships in Oslo
Oslo has hosted the Word Ski Championships twice; in 1966 and in 1982. The main arena for these Championships was Holmenkollen, as it will be in 2011. The historical Holmenkollen arena was also central when Oslo hosted the Winter Olympics in 1952.
A new Holmenkollen Ski Jump on the way
For the 2011 World Championships the famous Holmenkollen Ski Jump will be rebuilt. The new ski jump will be located in the same place, but will be a more modern ski jump, complying with today’s international requirements. The architectural qualities and unique profile will be continued in the new jump, which has been designed by Julien de Smedt Architects.
The first major event in the new ski jump will be the World Cup competition in March 2010. This will be an important "rehearsal" for the new arena.
In addition to the new ski jump in Holmenkollen, new ski jumping facilities are being built in Midtstuen nearby, and the cross-country arena, press centre etc. will be improved.
