Plans for Holmenkollen finalized

By the end of 2009, Holmenkollen will have two new ski jumps, a new cross-country arena, a new biathlon arena, as well as new entrances, roads and parking facilities. The construction work starts in August 2008.

This summer is your last chance to see the "old" Holmenkollen ski jump!

Norwegian national symbol and tourist attraction Holmenkollen is being upgraded for the 2011 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, and on 18 June the plans were given the green light by the Oslo City Council.

The ski jump will be torn down in September 2008, and the project is scheduled to be completed before the end of 2009.

Much of the Holmenkollen ski arena will be a construction site for over a year, and the area will be closed to the public in certain periods. The Holmenkollen Ski Museum, which is located at the base of the ski jump tower, will only be open periodically during the construction period.

In addition to the upgrade of the Holmenkollen Ski Jump and the building of a new tower, a new normal size ski jump, a new cross-country arena and a new biathlon arena. The cross-country trails will also be upgraded.

No major events will be held at the Holmenkollen arena in 2009.
