Sporten is one of Oslo's largest and most special banqueting rooms with a capacity of over 200 people. It was built in the traditional dragon style in 1896 by architect Holm Munthe.
Sporten has for many years been a banquet room for the restaurant at Frognerseteren, but is now run separately by Sult Restaurants. Sporten was built in 1896 for athletic people who would hike along the mountain tracks in the summer and do winter sports in the winter, as a supplement to Frognerseteren when it was "overtaken" by the wealthy elite and did not end up being the place it was intended to be by the Oslo municipality.
Sporten has always been run sporadically, even though it was at times open as a cafee for people out walking or skiing the mountain trails. It had its golden age in the '60s and '70s, when public dances were held there.
