Diana Ross To Headline Star Studded Concert Honouring Peace Prize Laureate
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has announced that two time Academy Award winning actor Sir Michael Caine will join Scarlett Johansson to host the 15th annual Nobel Peace Prize Concert on Thursday, December 11th in Oslo, Norway. The show will be headlined by the legendary artist Diana Ross and will feature performances by world renowned artsts such as Feist, Dierks Bentley, Julieta Venegas, Seun Kuti and Marit Larsen. This year’s Nobel Concert hosts have collaborated in the recent past, with Caine and Johansson appearing together on screen in the 2006 big screen production “The Prestige".
This year’s Nobel Peace Prize Concert will honour laureate Martti Ahtisaari, the former President of Finland, for what the committee calls “his important efforts, on several continents and over more than three decades, to resolve international conflicts.” The award is given annually to an individual or organization whose work exemplifies a spirit of vision and leadership that wil help promote peace in the world. Mr. Ahtisaari will be in attendance at the concert, which is presented by the esteemed Norwegian Nobel Committee and broadcast to more than 100 countries worldwide.
During an illustrious career that spans more than five decades, Caine has appeared in over 100 films and been honored with numerous awards, including two Best Supporting Actor Oscars for his memorable roles in “Hannah and Her Sisters” in 1986 and “The Cider House Rules” in 1999. This year, the British actor reprised his role as Alfred in the worldwide blockbuster “The Dark Knight”.
With more than a decade of work under her belt, four-time Golden Globe nominee and BAFTA winner Johansson has proven to be one of Hollywood’s most talented young actresses. She received rave reviews and a “Best Actress” Award at the Venice Film Festival for her starring role opposite Bill Murray in “Lost in Translation,” the critically-acclaimed second film by director Sofia Coppola. In May 2008 Johansson released her album, “Anywhere I Lay My Head,” a collection of Tom Waits covers featuring one original song. She recently wrapped production on her directorial debut, a short film called, “New York, I Love You” and also wrapped production on two films; “He’s Just Not That Into You” and “The Spirit.”
The Nobel Peace Prize is the most prestigious award in the world, honouring icons such as Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, Kofi Annan, Al Gore and other remarkable individuals and organizations. For the past fourteen years, the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony has been followed the next day by the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, a musical celebration honouring the laureate.
