On 27 May 2009 a new terminal area opens at Oslo Airport Gardermoen. The 4,000 square metre expansion increases the airport's capacity to 22 million passengers annually.
The arrivals area increases by 2,000 square metres. The new baggage carousel will increase the airport's baggage handling capacity to 4,900 unites per hour, up from 3,700 before. The departures area also has 2,000 square metres of additional space, which gives room for 14 additional check-in counters.
Over 19 million travellers passed through Oslo Airport Gardermoen in 2008. If the passenger trends continue, Gardermoen could become Scandinavia's largest airport in terms of passenger numbers in 2010.
