The Theatre Museum of Oslo, founded in 1939, presents the theatre history of the Norwegian capital through paintings, photographs, scenographic sketches and models, posters costumes, marionettes and ancient technical equipment etc. A considerable part of the collection dates from the period of The Christiania Theatre, which was built in 1837 and demolished in 1899, where several of the plays of Henrik Ibsen and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson were performed for the first time.
The museum is housed in the old Town Hall dating from 1641, where the first public theatre performance in Christiania (Oslo) took place in 1667 by a company of travelling actors.
Guided tours from 12 noon in English, Norwegian and German.
This museum is for both children and adults to enjoy!
Closed on public holidays.
