The educational department is Oslo county's largest, with 175 educational institutions and over 61 000 students. The elementary and middle schools have 49 353 estudents. The number of students in high schools is just under 12 000.

Distinguishing characteristics: Special architecture, flexible and adjusted teaching through the use of activity pedagogics. Profile shoice, language and society or nature, technology and research, from 5th grade. Early start with second foreign language- Spanish, German, or French from 5th grade. Starts using the European language file from 8th grade. Reading projects for all grade levels.
