Winter Walks in Oslo
What to do on a winter afternoon? Mrs Marit Utaker on the new Oslo Winter Walks
One of Oslo’s unique qualities are the short distances and the relatively quiet streets and many parks. While Oslo is one of the world’s greenest capitals during summer, it really is breathtakingly beautiful in the winter months. Mrs Marit Utaker of Oslo Guideservice has been eager to show off Oslo through Winter Walks for a long time now, and in January of 2008 the first complete program will be distributed through hotels and partners worldwide.
“Besides being environmentally friendly, city walks are good for you,” smiles Marit – one of Oslo’s true veteran guides. “Besides, it gives the tour a peacefulness and brings the group together in a completely different way. At the end of some of the tours we’ll stop at restaurants, bars or café’s for something warm or refreshing!”
Each of Marit and her guides’ tours will have different themes. For instance, Wednesdays are all about the medieval castle and fortress at Akershus; it’s hstory and ghosts, and the tour ends at one of Oslo’s oldes restaurants, the “Engebret Café”, which was a favourite hang out for among others Henrig Ibsen and Bjornstierne Bjornson. “Over a cup of hot “toddy” our clients will get a chance to talk to the guide, ask questions or maybe stay for dinner if thy choose to do so,” says Marit Utaker.
Oslo Winter Walks start every afternoon at 17.00 from the Tourist Information at Trafikanten (Oslo Central Station). Read more about the winter walks on www.osloguide.no or www.visitoslo.com. For flyers and material please contact marit@osloguide.no!
