Sporten
Sporten, (originally Frognerseteren Sportshall), is one of Oslo's biggest and most special banqueting rooms with a capacity of over 200 people. Sporten has for many years been a banqueting room for the restaurant at Frognerseteren, but is now run separately by Sult Restaurants. Sporten was built in 1896 for athletic people who would hike along the mountain tracks in the summer and do winter sports in the winter, as a supplement to Frognerseteren when it was "overtaken" by the wealthy elite and did not end up being the place it was intended to be by the Oslo municipality.
The architect, Holm Munthe designed both Frognerseteren and Sporten and it was built in the traditional dragon style. Sporten has always been run sporadically, even though it was at times open as a cafee for people out walking or skiing the mountain trails. It had its golden age in the 60's and 70's, when there were arranged public dances on the premises. One could almost say that Sporten was one of Oslo's first "in places".
