Farewell to a Giant

October 1st 2008 sees the central Holmenkollen skiing area closed to the public. Shortly after work will start deconstructing this famous giant in modern skiing history. Over the next two years the construction of the new Holmenkollen Arena will be a tourist attraction in itself.

Welcome to the new Holmenkollen Arena in 2010

The new Holmenkollen Arena will certainly raise quite a few eyebrows as it emerges in the view of the city below. At a press conference August 6th, the Commissioner for Business Development and Sports Facilities announced that the ski jump itself will be even larger than originally planned, with a new hill size of K120. This means that ski jumpers can jump as far as 140 meters.

The national arena will be closed as of September 1, 2008 due to security reasons and the progress of the construction work. Visitors will not be able to access the arena as of this date.

The Ski Museum will stay open during September, but with limited hours (9-17). From October it will be closed. Please see the Ski Museum homepages for updated information.
