City centre
The city centre is usually people's first stop in Oslo. Here you'll find amazing shopping opportunities, great hotels and fascinating historic buildings. There are plenty of nice cafes and restaurants in and around the main street Karl Johans gate. This is also the place to be at night, with a lively bar and club scene in and around the city centre.
Neighbourhoods within the city centre
The city centre is really an accumulation of distinct neighbourhoods, each with its own identity. Find your favourite area of the city centre of Oslo!
Kvadraturen
The Kvadraturen district between Akershus Fortress and Karl Johans gate got its name for its rectangular street pattern. It is the historical centre of Oslo dating back to 1624. Today, it is home to some of the oldest buildings in Oslo, and many galleries and museums have moved to the area.
The Harbour Promenade
The Harbour Promenade actually constitutes Oslo's entire coastline, and offers a wealth of experiences on or close to the water. Here, we have defined the harbour area as the part that stretches between Bjørvika to the east and Aker Brygge to the west, including Vippetangen. Here, you will find saunas, boat sightseeing, sea food and streetfood.
Torggata
If you want to experience a different side of Oslo's city centre, you can walk up to the fashionable area around Torggata street with many small restaurants, shops and bars.
Tullinløkka
Tullinløkka is an area north of the main street Karl Johans gate and the Royal Palace Park, where you'll find popular restaurants and bars, as well as second-hand shops and art attractions.
