“Oslo is a nice town and I would highly recommend that travelers get the Oslo pass, just stay at a good hotel and buy it separately. While the Carlton was clean and the facilities were in good shape, the good points end there. It's location requires a long, possibly cold walk or a bus/tram ride to get to it. It is environmentally sensitive, but that just means your bamboo topped desk is too bumpy to write on, and the towels are hard as a rock. The Mac computer is a great idea, but mounted 4m away from the bed makes it unusable, unless you are standing at the foot of the bed. The Mac is your TV and phone too. The walls are paper thin, you will hear everything going on in the adjacent rooms. The breakfast is ok, but the fire alarm at 6am from burned bacon one morning wasn't appreciated. I had to move half way between my stay, they filled up and I left half of my stay unbooked, so not their fault but I got to compare hotels. The Thon Stefan, while older, was a much nicer hotel, the room has better organization, thick walls, better breakfasts, much better location and a nice staff. I have a feeling the Thon chain is where people should stay.”

“When you enter the hotel, you feel like in Asia. And the approach is very consistent, from the entrance, to the room and the food. Really a difference to a normal busines hotel.”

“We had a very nice trip to OSLO. The hotel was one of the things which the trip made so interesting. The room was a bit small, but for the two of us was it ok. The bathroom was a bit small too, but it was also ok. The shower had now door or curtain. That made the shower very interessting ;-) The Apple PC in the room was fantastic. It was possible to watch TV, surfing the internet and to get a lot og information about the City and about destinations for our trip. The hotel personel was very advertend and helpful. We got everything we wanted. For the next time it would be good to know, that the whole street before the hotel was or is a construction site. We don't had any problems with that, but we were a bit surprised when we arrived at the hotel. All in all we can say, that we will visit OSLO a second time in future and if we can get a room in Carlton Oslo Hotel Guldsmeden, we will take it.”

“The hotel is situated away from the central city so may not suit everyone. However it is located in an up-market suburb and the train station is only about 10 mins walk and is one stop away from the central station. The express train also goes direct to the airport from this station so overall the location is OK. The rooms are not spacious and I felt were over-furnished (no TV though) making it a bit of a tight squeeze for two people sharing, each with a suitcase. However the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was a reasonable range of foods provided for breakfast. What was provided was very good but I would rate it as average based on the range provided by other hotels of equal or slightly lower star rating. What was outstanding was the cheerful, friendly and very helpful staff member that was on duty on the day. The hotel represented very good value for money and I would recommend it to others. ”
