one summer i got a visit from some swiss friends and we decided to go camping on Langøyene - an island in the oslo fjord. it's really easy to get there, you just take a ferry from the city centre. we went there in the afternoon and put up our tent on this big field close to the beach. the weather was great so we went for a swim. later we had a nice barbecue dinner by the water. one of the guys also brought his fishing pole. it's also a great way to meet people; other travellers or Oslo people escaping the city for a short "mini holiday".
this is a great thing about norway, that you can put up your tent in the wild and spend the night for free. (there are some rules though so check that before you try this! the other islands that the ferries go to don't allow camping)
