Oslo in the summertime is a wonderful place to be, but as you might have experienced, it can be rather expensive. I have lived my entire life in Oslo, and I have a tip for everyone spending a day or two in this beautiful city of ours: Do as the locals do, hit the parks. Buy a disposable barbecue (can be bought in any food store in Oslo), a few sausages and something to drink and find a nice spot in one of Oslo's numerous parks. It is a nice break from the crowded museums and tourist attractions this time of year, a way to eat cheap instead of going out; and a perfect opportunity to watch the Norwegians in their preferred summer habitat: outdoors. A tip, though, is to arrive early; or find a secluded spot, some of the parks can be really crowded from around 7/8 in the evening during summer.
Tip for families: A lot of parks have playgrounds, volleyball playing fields etc. for those of you who prefer to stay active.
