Oslo east is my favourite part of Oslo. Walking up the Akerselva (river) from Grønland and north, you come to Grünerløkka. I normally do my jogging along this river, people walk their dogs here, and you find lots of hidden fun in the old fabric buildings by Akerselva. Bars, galleries, stages, clubs, restaurants… On Sundays there’s a great market at Blå; they sell crafts, second hand clothes and shoes and above all fantastic waffles! Warning: do NOT, I repeat NOT, go there if you’re on a diet ;-) Grünerløkka has personality. A neighbourhood you can spend days to explore and it is so different from downtown Oslo. Here you find the small and funny shops, even some Norwegian design, lots of different cafes and bars, traditional Oslo “parklife” in the summer. (Must be experienced – bring some food and drinks and have a lazy afternoon in one of our parks. Hey – here you meet the locals; talk to us, we’re very friendly but a bit shy.)
