Maybe the most famous Norwegian of all time is Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906). He wrote several dramas, including "The Doll's House" ("Et Dukkehjem" in Norwegian or "Nora" in German), "Peer Gynt", "The Wild Duck" and "Hedda Gabler".

At the end of his life, he lived next to the Royal Palace in Oslo. His apartment is now open to visitors, and the Ibsen Museum gives a very interesting guided tour every hour in the summer season. It's not necessary to read all his works before you visit the museum - the most fascinating part of the museum is to see the original furniture from the 19th century, and see the large painting of his nemesis August Strindberg he kept on the wall in his office so that he never would relax and always write his best!
