Star Conductors, Stellar Reputation: The Oslo Philharmonics

A major attraction in the capital of Norway is the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, who boasts the broadest and biggest repertoire of classical music in Norway. This season offers 85 concerts, of which 25 on tour!

Classic, Romantic and Modern

The Oslo Philharmonic, with its 107 musicians, plays with a quality reserved for only the world’s most significant orchestras. Because of its stellar reputation, the Oslo Philharmonic can offer the best of star-quality conductors and soloists. The repertoire presents a rich variety of musical traditions from classicism and romanticism to modernism and contemporary music.

The many great guest conductors cover all generations – from young celebrities to legendary maestros such as Herbert Blomstedt. Norwegian star soloists are Leif Ove Andsnes, Håvard Gimse, Henning Kraggerud, Truls Mørk, and the young trumpet player Tine Thing Helseth.
 
Famous names from the world’s prominent opera stages include Kerstin Avemo, Jeanne-M. Charbonnet, Péter Fried, Jorma Hynninen, Petra Lang, Camilla Nylund, Christiane Oelze, Antigone Papoulkas, Christoph Prégardien, and Jan-Hendrik Rootering. Among highlight instrumental soloists are Anne-Sophie Mutter and Arcadi Volodos.
 
The evening concerts at the Oslo Concert Hall take place at 19.30 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during the season from August until May. For information on tickets and sales, you can download the full program here.
 
Families are especially invited to matinee concerts on Saturdays as well as Christmas and New Year concerts. Chamber concerts are also performed on Saturdays.
