Explore Norwegian nature in the Oslo region

Nature experiences in the Oslo region

Seek tranquility and challenge your limits outdoors.

The Oslo region's nature is accessible in several respects. Outdoor experiences are always close, even if you’re staying in the middle of Oslo. Kind landscapes and the Norwegian freedom to roam makes it easy for anyone to embark on great adventures in the open. The region offers open air activities all year round, so you’ll have plenty to choose from whether you visit on a hot summer’s day or in the midst of winter.

Life by the fjord

The Oslo fjord cuts deep into the region, creating a coastline that is filled with scenic tableaus and varied options for fun and recreation at the water’s edge.

All the way south, in the archipelago of Hvaler, public ferries take you island hopping between car-free islands where dwellers move their belongings around in wheelbarrows. Across the fjord, in Vestfold, you can follow well-signed paths from town to town along the coast. Stop off at Verdens Ende - ‘the end of the world’- to take in a soothing view of the Skagerak horizon.

Scattered along the coast you’ll also find former fishermen’s villages where small wooden houses, narrow streets and whiffs of sea air encapsulates the essence of summer. Seaside resorts and small inns invite you to spend a night or two to swim, fish or simply experience the light at dusk and dawn that has inspired artists for centuries.

Wintery fun in the region

Snow and low temperatures come with great opportunities for outdoor fun in the Oslo region. Prepared cross country trails run all across the area, and the region’s alpine skiing centres offer courses that are surprisingly fun and challenging for a flatland region.

Wonderful winter landscapes can also be explored by foot or by sleigh. And as the evening approaches, there is always a café with a fireplace or a good concert close by.

Challenge yourself!

What better way to enjoy nature than through fun challenging outdoor activities?

In the Oslo region you'll find Scandinavia's largest climbing park, zip lines that take your breath away, wild rivers perfect for rafting, and great places for downhill mountain biking. Adrenaline kicks are guaranteed for those who dare to try.
