Edvard Munch also made commissioned works. Historic sources tell us that not all paintings were well received. Some paintings were refused or returned because they were perceived as morally offensive, and others because they provoked contemporary aesthetic norms. The daughter of one of Munch's friends reported that her school friends were not allowed to visit her at home because of the Munch paintings on their wall. Is it still possible to get provoked or dislike some of Munch's paintings today?
