Bygdøy for the boat enthusiast
Maritime treasures as far as the eye can see.
You start the day by doing a boat ride! The delightful Bygdøy ferry takes you on a refreshing tour across the Oslo fjord, out towards beautiful Bygdøynes.
Here you will find a unique and comprehensive selection of boats – everything from the oldest logboat at the Norwegian Maritime Museum, via balsa and reed boats at The Kon-Tiki Museum, to the world’s sturdiest wooden ship at the Fram Museum.
Norwegian maritime history
At each of these three museums you can explore Norway’s seafaring history and see boats that have sailed on every ocean in the world. You can dream yourself away to the Arctic, Antarctic and Pacific Islands, and see if you share some of the heritage of the sailors, explorers and adventurers you will get to know.
Once it is time for a break you can enjoy some seafood at Kafe FJORD.
You can purchase a combination ticket that gives you access to both the Fram Museum, the Norwegian Maritime Museum and The Kon-Tiki Museum.
The Norwegian Maritime Museum has borrowed one of the small Viking boats from the Museum of the Viking Age (opens 2026). Besides being able to see the original, you will also be able to see how the replica of the boat is being built.
In The Boat Hall you can see the exhibition “By sea” about the life along the Norwegian coastline during the 1800s, as well as shipping in the Oslo harbour during the 1500s and the 1600s. Here you can see traditional boats, shipwrecks and other exciting artefacts.
