1. Nasjonal Jazzscene - Victoria
Located right on Oslo's main street Karl Johan, Victoria boasts that classical jazz club atmosphere and an impressive concert programme. Walking in on any given night, chances are that you’ll experience one of the hottest names in contemporary jazz. On some Wednesdays you have the chance to listen to young jazz talents play, totally free!

2. BLÅ
BLÅ is one of Oslo’s grand old club venues, located in alluring surroundings by the Akerselva river. It is known for booking progressive and alternative quality acts, and on Fridays and Saturdays, concerts often fade into some of Oslo’s most popular club nights. Every (yes, every) Sunday there is a free concert with Frank Znort Quartet.

3. Riksscenen
Oslo’s main venue for folk music hosts artists from all over the globe. Don’t expect a national costume show though – these are top-notch performers who reinvent old traditions in a modern setting. If you're lucky, the concert may turn into a jam or dance session.

4. Parkteatret
Located in the heart of the vibrant Grünerløkka neighbourhood, Parkteatret is a favourite among both locals and performers. This remodelled movie theatre will really let you experience the artists up close. Expect to find pop, rock, hip-hop and soul in the line-up.

5. Herr Nilsen
This no-nonsense music pub caters to lovers of traditional jazz, blues, Americana and related styles. It is the perfect place to kick back and enjoy good music, plain and simple. Oh, and rumour has it the cocktails here are really great, too.

6. Kulturhuset
Kulturhuset Oslo is a three-storey cultural meeting spot filled with everything from study groups to shuffleboarders. The concerts programme mostly features young, local performers.

7. SALT
For a venue truly out of the ordinary, visit this popular culture spot by the pier. There is always something going on, even the days many other spots are closed. SALT also invites you to experience music inside Árdna - one of Europe's largest saunas.
