New Project Manager Cruise

Agnes Mathiesen is the new Project Manager Cruise at VisitOSLO.

In October, Agnes Mathiesen will take over as Project Manager Cruise, a position that was created as part of a collaboration between VisitOSLO and the Port of Oslo.

Agnes Mathiesen joins VisitOSLO from her previous role as Key Account for cruise at Flåm AS. There she worked closely with the Aurland Harbour Authority and local businesses on product development and the marketing of Flåm as a year-round cruise destination – the fourth largest of its kind in Norway.

'In Flåm, my responsibilities included the further development of Flåm as an attractive  cruise destination, and I worked closely with the cruise lines and their agents, tour operators, and local suppliers offering shore excursions to cruise guests,' Agnes says.

Her previous experience includes 12 years for Norwegian Cruise Line in different roles, including purser on board, Miami port agent, and finally Manager Port Operations with financial and operational responsibility for more than 200 ports worldwide.

The newly appointed project manager brings with her an extensive network of highly relevant contacts in the cruise industry, among others in:

• all cruise lines with cruises to Norway, and the cruise lines' ship agents and tour operators
• local, regional and national agents in the travel industry
• Cruise Europe (where she is a board member)
• Cruise Norway
• Norwegian and foreign ports

'For a long time I have wanted to be part of the drive to increase the number of cruise ship calls to Oslo,' she explains.

'The city has so much to offer, and sailing through the Oslo Fjord is a fantastic experience. I look forward to building Oslo's reputation as a must-see cruise destination in collaboration with the representatives for the city's many great sites.'

Agnes' first day at VisitOSLO will be 2 October, and she is more than ready to take on the task of strengthening Oslo as a cruise destination together with the Port of Oslo and the local businesses in the visitor industry.

'Promoting my wonderful hometown Oslo towards the cruise industry is my dream job!'

In addition to increasing the number of cruise ships visiting Oslo, Agnes will work to make Oslo a year-round cruise port. She will also assess the possibility of more home port calls, where cruises start and finish in Oslo.
