Playgrounds in the city centre

Bjørvika playground

If you already want to visit the MUNCH museum or the Opera house, this playground is the perfect choice. According to many of the children living in Oslo, this is also the coolest playground! The kids can climb, slide, and crawl through tunnels while you relax with a coffee on one of the benches. And when you get hungry, there are plenty of eateries nearby – there's even a donut shop at Talormade with all kinds of flavoured donuts.

This playground suits all ages; however, we recommend that the kids are at least 4 years old as the climbing frame is not particularly parent-friendly if your child gets stuck.

Norway's longest slide at Tøyen

The Kirsebærlunden playground is located right next to the Tøyen subway station and was upgraded in 2022 to a large play universe for children of all ages with 4 age-appropriate slides, a large mythical animal and a natural balance path. Here, children can climb, balance, slide, crawl around and have fun.

One slide is 27.5 metres long, making it Norway's longest outdoor slide. In addition, there is an 8-metre-wide family slide and two further slides, one of which is adapted for the very smallest while the other is for older children.

Krakabøla – the playground above the ground

A short walk (15 minutes) from Bjørvika and the MUNCH museum you'll find Krakabøla playground with a creative climbing frame above the ground, that is quite popular and familiar to Oslo's locals. Suitable for all ages.

Sørli at Tøyen

This is a new and modern playground that was created in 2018, consisting of a 25 meters long climbing frame! The playground is located near Tøyen Torg with cafes and eateries.

Princess Ingrid Alexandras Sculpture Park

This sculpture park is part of the Palace Park surrounding the Royal palace. All the sculptures are meant to play with, and they are based on drawings made by Norwegian children from across the country. King Harald (the King of Norway) has even encouraged children to play with and on the sculptures.

The Royal Park is also a great place for a picnic, and if you are lucky, you might see the change of guards that happens every day at 1.30 pm?

Frognerborgen playground at the Vigeland Sculpture Park

On this playground you will find a large climbing frame that looks like a castle! The children love it, and we can assure you that you need to plan your pit stop here to be a long one … This playground suits all ages, with its own area for the toddlers. In addition to the castle, you will find swings, a large sandbox, and other climbing frames.

You can plan for a full day here with a visit to the Vigeland Sculpture Park – a large park with more than 200 sculptures. Fun fact: children are allowed to climb on the sculptures! Can you find the labyrinth? It should keep your children active for at least one hour searching for the 3-kilometer-long path. When you get hungry (or tired) you can either visit the café in the park or have a picnic in one of the large green areas.

Do your kids still want some action? The open-air pool Frognerbadet is next to the Vigeland Park and offers great and playful swimming opportunities.

Go play in natural surroundings

Rommensletta Sculpture Park

A short ride with the subway (T-banen) leads to Rommensletta Sculpture Park which boasts an activity park for juniors and adults, as well as a playground shaped like a snail (as seen from above). The park also offers picnic areas and a great view.

Østensjøvannet lake

The playground next to Østensjøvannet has natural-looking climbing frames with an obstacle course, a slide, and swings. There are benches for you to sit and enjoy your lunch, and a few metres away you can watch the birds that live in and near the lake. Suitable for children at all ages.

If you have older children, you can take a walk around the lake (approximately 4,5 km). The trail is quite easy for children who like to walk.

Toboggan runs in Oslo

During winter there are several places in Oslo you can go sledding! Here is an overview of several of the toboggan runs in the city. Remember to bring your own sled! NB: There must be good snow conditions for the toboggan runs to be useable.

Climbing and activity parks

Linderud gård climbing park

A small climbing park outside Linderud Gård that is free of charge and open every day until 5 pm. The children can climb, test their balance, and ride the zipline. Linderud Gård climbing park is part of a recreation area with benches and is perfect for picnics.

Verdensparken (The World Park)

The World Park is a large activity park that is perfect for both children and adults. Here you will find a playground with a climbing wall and other fun activities, benches, public barbecue sites and a parkour park.
